Aksel Tanner

September 16, 1928 — June 10, 2015

Aksel Hyrum Tanner, 86, of Salem, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away at home due to causes incident to old age. He was born to Hyrum Tanner and Sara Elvira Eriksen on Sept. 16th, 1928 in Salt lake City, UT. He married his sweetheart, Donna Fae Young on Aug. 14th, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in the Navy at the end of World War II. He then served an honorable mission to Norway for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Brigham Young University. He worked as a Seminary teacher for many years, teaching 9 of his 11 children. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including serving as a temple worker. He was also a counselor in a branch at the Provo Missionary Training Center and then served as the Branch President for a total of four years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, a grandson, and a great granddaughter.



He is survived by his wife and eleven children: Carla (Randy) Tuckett, David (Kathren) Tanner, Lynda (Steve) Kondor, Cindy (Gary) Thatcher, Robert Tanner, JoAnn (Roger) Grady, Holly (Scott) Rogers, Lisa Cabrera, Gena (Paul) Ashby, Sarah (Sam) Quist, Kristi (Blake) Prowes. Two sisters Rose (John) Anderson, Betty (Kenneth) Farley. A brother-in-law Sterling Bylund and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.



Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 15th, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Salem 2nd Ward church, 60 S. Main, Salem, UT. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday evening June 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Salem City Cemetery, 130 E. 965 S., Salem, UT
