Christopher Rowley Curtis
A source of joy and light left us unexpectedly on Sunday, September 14, 2014, when Chris Curtis, of Orem, age 23, returned home to his Heavenly Father and joined many of his loved family's open arms who had gone before him.
Chris was born on November 6th, 1990, to Chad R. and Janene Curtis, to join with three waiting brothers and eventually a fourth. A Neighborhood Exploration and Mischief Society was quickly formed and there was not a tree that was left unclimbed or a small nook that was left unexplored, (nor a doorbell left unrung at the wee hours of the night.) The five brothers developed an eternal bond that will never diminish.
Chris attended Springville High School but didn't graduate with his class. Undeterred and with hard work, he received his GED shortly thereafter. A proud achievement, which grew within him a desire to go further in his education but ultimately time would not allow.
Chris was very thoughtful and giving. He was adored by his young nephews and nieces and respected by all who got to know him. He received several awards for customer service with his work including 3 times Employee of the Month at Sonic Wash where he became a QC Supervisor. He showed that same commitment to doing a job right wherever he was. Among his varied employments, he worked several years at IFA in Provo, as a yard manager at a fencing company and lastly as a detail supervisor at Larry H. Miller Auto in Provo.
Chris loved many things besides his family, especially everything outdoors. He spent countless hours hunting and fishing, starting with following his older brothers afield while hunting. He carried his trusted BB gun, shooting continuously at unseen prey and thwarting his older brothers quiet stalks. His keen wit, his endearing sense of humor and sincere commitment to service set him apart among men. Chris would quietly offer a hand of friendship, lend a helping hand or give a loving embrace when a need was seen. He touched many lives with his caring.
His greatest love in life, however, was Makenzie Allan-Kelly, who he met on a double date through friends who "lined them up". They quickly fell in love and they were married on August 25th, 2012. Chris' love for Kenzie was a joy and an example to see.
Chris was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in almost all of the positions in the Young Mens Programs. His heart was deep as evidenced through his poetry and skillful art. He considered himself a cowboy; he was a skilled mechanic and loved outdoor cooking.
Chris is survived by his wife Makenzie, Orem; her parents Sam and Amy Kelly, Springville and their children Madyson Allan-Kelly, Trevin and Tyler Kelly; his parents, Chad and Janene Curtis, Springville; his brothers Sean (Andrea) Curtis, Spanish Fork, Ryan (Kim) Curtis, Provo, Kyle (Micquelle) Curtis, Springville, Taylor (Shelby) Curtis, Springville and a sister in life, Chauntae Broadus, Provo; his Grandmother Betty (Rowley) Curtis, Springville; nephews Haden and Robby; nieces Albany, Emery and Capri Curtis. He has many uncles, aunts and cousins. He is preceded in death by his Grandparents Thomas Leland and Madge Nuttall, Grandfather Rowley Marvin Curtis, his cousin Brandon Curtis and cousins Jay Rowley Hall and Jeremy Robert Hall.
Chris was a kind hearted man who respected and quietly served neighbors, friends and family. He has chosen to donate his organs and tissues as a final service for those in need. Truly generous to the end. Our hearts are broken but we have hope in our faith that we will be united again at a much happier and joyous place, with all who we loved at our sides.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 9:00 am to 11:15 am at the Kolob Stake Center, 1230 South 500 East Springville. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 11:30 am. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. An account is set up at Pacific Horizon Credit Union in Springville in Christopher Curtis' name for those who wish to contribute towards final expenses.
