Donald Grimes

September 25, 1931 — July 15, 2023

Donald Clow Grimes, affectionately known as Don, was born on September 25, 1931, in Stockton, CA, and peacefully passed away on July 15, 2023. A charismatic and dedicated man, Donald lived a rich and full life. His most recent residence was in Payson, Utah, where he had lived for a year and a half. Before moving to Utah, Donald spent the majority of his life in Amador County, CA, where he worked as an elementary school teacher for the Amador County Unified School District. He was a loyal educator, dedicating over 30 years to teaching before his retirement in 1990. Donald's commitment to education was recognized with the Outstanding and Dedicated Service Award. His humorous storytelling and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.



Donald had a deep love for his country, having served in the US Air Force. His military service during the Korean War Conflict was acknowledged with the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a skilled craftsman, holding a California Contractor License. When Donald wasn't working or serving his country, he was an avid reader, a golfer, and a passionate fisherman. His dedication extended to his spiritual life, with his commitment to living the gospel of Jesus Christ and attending the temple being a vital part of his life. He also found great joy in sharing stories with his family and friends.



Donald was a widower, having lost his beloved wife Patricia. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ida Grimes, and his sons, Paul and John Grimes. He is survived by his son Bill Grimes and his wife Debie, his granddaughters Sarah Larsen and Eric, Stacey Knight and Marcus, his grandson Kyle Grimes and Kylie, and his great-grandchildren Aria, Afton, EJ, Eli, Eva, Estelle, Ellie, Royal, Goldie, Julia, Emma, Aaliyah, and Mya. He also leaves behind his niece Patti Coverston and her husband Steve.



The graveside burial will take place on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 1:00 pm MDT at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery located at 420 South 400 East, Spanish Fork, Utah, 84660.



Donald's charisma, dedication, humor, and loyalty will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him.
