Margene Hurst Farnworth, age 88, passed away on September 16, 2025, in Provo, Utah, from cancer. She was surrounded by many family members as she graduated from this difficult yet beautiful part of eternity.
Born on April 16, 1937, to Ester and Walden Hurst in a humble basement home on 1600 South in Mapleton, Margene spent her childhood exploring the fields and foothills of her beloved town. She remained in Mapleton all 88 years of her life, always looking up at the mountain she cherished.
On August 5, 1967, Margene married her sweetheart, Roger Farnworth, in Mapleton Canyon—their favorite place on earth and the setting of many cherished family hikes. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple.
For the last 68 years, Margene dedicated her life to what she believed was most precious in the eyes of her Creator: raising the seven children entrusted to her care. Though she often felt imperfect, she gave her children the priceless gift of an attentive mother—always present when she was needed. She loved painting and tending her garden, and her family fondly remembers that by the age of eight, each child knew how to bottle food. Rarely was there a family meal without something fresh from her garden, no matter the season.
Margene’s greatest challenge, and perhaps her most sacred calling, came with the birth of her youngest daughter, born with Down’s Syndrome. Though unprepared for such a mission, she accepted it with faith and love, seeing in her daughter the blessing of caring for one of heaven’s angels. For 45 years Margene gave her all to this holy stewardship.
She was preceded in death by all but one of her sisters, Joann and her brother Craig. She is survived by her husband, Roger; her children Teri, Kelly, Darin, Becky, Ryan, Kristy, and Hillary; and by 24 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Her posterity stretches far and wide across the world.
The family wishes to thank the loving and dedicated staff at Beehive Homes of Provo for their wonderful care during her final weeks.
