Marilyn Hanson

June 25, 1929 — February 21, 2018

Marilyn Knight Hanson passed away on February 21st, 2018. She was born in Eureka Utah to H. Lynn Knight and Vilnah Avone Goldsbrough Knight Winn on June 25th, 1929. She spent her childhood in Nephi, Utah, and Shiprock, New Mexico, and enjoyed visiting both throughout her life.

Following a childhood desire Marilyn attended Nursing School in Pocatello after graduating high school at the age of 16, and it soon became her biggest passion. She enjoyed her work as a nurse and the challenges that always kept her on her toes. Over the course of her career she went from sterilizing glass syringes and re-sharpening needles for re-use, to seeing the development of plastic and single use devices. She spent the majority of her career working in Payson Hospital. After she retired in 1983 whenever she found herself in a hospital, she was always able to find and old friend or colleague from her days as a Nurse to reminisce with. She also enjoyed shocking the young nurses who cared for her with stories of past nursing practices from the early days of her career.

Marilyn married Ralph M. Hanson in 1950. They made their home in Spanish Fork, Utah and were active in their community and ward. They enjoyed gardening, and won the local "Yard-of-the-Month" award several times. They also enjoyed traveling with their family and the Good-Sams club. They were always ready to pack up their trailer and hit the road for their next adventure. Marilyn also enjoyed cake decorating, and traveled all over Utah and the surrounding states to teach her techniques. She was also a skilled embroideress and avid quilt-maker, skills she picked up from her favorite Aunt, Nell Barnes. She was an avid reader, and a lover of "Family Feud" and "The Bachelor" TV series. She was also Elvis Presley's biggest fan and acquired a vast collection of memorabilia which she treasured.

She is survived by her brother Stephen Winn, her daughter Lorie (Tom) Otterstrom, three grand-children and one great grand-child. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph M Hanson, her father H. Lynn Knight, her mother Vilnah Avone Goldsbrough Knight Winn, and step-father David F. Winn, and her brother Newell G. Knight.

A Luncheon will be served after the graveside service at the Spanish Fork 3rd ward church, 575 W 400 N, Spanish Fork, UT.
