Born to an amazing single mom in a small suburb just outside of Chicago, Evanston, Illinois on August 31, 1945, Michael Garvin McEuen (known to his loving family as Pa Bear), 76 slipped away in the quiet early morning hours of April 8th with his loving wife and family close after a 10-month slog with metastatic colon cancer. He was able to cross over in his home, surrounded by those who were lucky enough to share his love.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Humpherys Rawlinson McEuen, daughter Lacie Rawlinson Nguyen, daughter Emily Rawlinson Babcock (TJ), and son Hyrum Rawlinson (Jennifer) and seven grandchildren (Remi, Asia, MaKenna, Tanner, Jacob, Charlotte, Kennadie and Kolton), all of whom feel lucky enough to have spent lots of time with their "Pa Bear" Mike, game playing, desert eating, long cross-country road tripping, karaoke singing, joke telling, Sunday dinner enjoying, all weather knowing, coffee loving, storytelling, "never met a person he didn't like" personality.
He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Elisabeth Anderson, his grandpa who helped raise him as a boy, Andy Anderson and his two Aunts, Lit and Gert Feltman. His first wife Sherri McEuen and his loving son Alan Michael McEuen and so many favorite dogs, including Sassy, Buddy and Lucky. We are comforted by the thoughts of the joyous reunions Mike was able to enjoy and the freeness he now feels, unencumbered with the pain of an un-working body.
Mike spent his days as a manager among the auto parts of Kmart and AutoZone, and a lover, breeder and shower of cocker spaniels (all dogs really). Pa Bear also ran a traveling coffee business with his wife Lori traveling across the United States, enjoying the sights, sounds, food and people alike.
Because of Pa's genial nature and love of conversation, there wasn't a place Mike frequented where he didn't already know a friend or make a new one along the way. Mike was a people enjoying man and, in his honor, food, drink and laughter will be shared at a future date. Mike was known to say, "If you want to see me, come visit while I'm alive. Otherwise, you missed the point!" We would like to echo those sentiments, love those you love while you can and "always eat dessert first", because our time together goes by so fast.
