Ray Lewis

July 5, 1936 — January 26, 2014

The best father, grandfather, son, brother and friend in the world passed away on January 26th 2014. Ray Wendell Lewis was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 5, 1936. He was the second of nine children born to Raymond W. and Ruth Brown Lewis. Wendell was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He graduated from East High and attended BYU, although his favorite team was always whoever played against BYU. In 1956 he was called on an LDS mission to New Zealand. After a two and a half year mission, he joined the Marine Corp. After honorably serving his church and his country, he moved to Southern California, where he worked with his family in the catering business. On July 9, 1965 he was sealed to Janeen Weiler in the Los Angeles temple (divorced 1979). Wendell and Janeen adopted two lucky children, a daughter, Wendy Lin and 18 months later a son, Gregory William. Wendell continued his long and illustrious career in catering, living in Alhambra, California until 1981, when he moved back to the Utah mountains that he loved. He spent many hours fishing with his son and working hard at the Miniature Market on 33rd South to put his daughter through college. He loved spending time with his 11 grandchildren, even when they covered him in toilet paper while he was sleeping and spread Nutella on his toilet seat as a joke. We had a lot of laughs with Wendell, and there are no words to describe what a kind, hard-working, selfless man he was. He touched many lives with his funny ways and his generous heart. The world will not be the same without him, but we rejoice, knowing that the party started on the other side the moment Wendell passed through the veil. We love you, dad.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Diane. He is survived by his children: Wendy (Ron), Greg (Elizabeth), grandchildren: Jonathan , Matthew, Harrison, Ryan, Chris, Cerani, Xander, Tyler, Hope, Annelisse and Chloe. Siblings: Rose, Gayle, Cindy, Connie, Ginger, Penny and Scott.
